Cogliano With 2 In Another Oiler Win

By -Jay on March 25th, 2008
With the Oilers in full playoff mode it’s not necessarily the veterans pushing the team. It’s the young guys, espically Andrew Cogliano, Sam Gagner, Robert Nilsson and Kyle Brodziak.

Last night against the Wild they all had points and Cogliano had a two goal game. and had a ton of chances within the last 5 minutes of the game to get his third but just couldn’t get it to go in. The Oilers did win 5-3 pushing their record to 12-3 in their last 15 games.

Cogliano Headed to The Hall of Fame

By -Jay on March 17th, 2008
After Andrew Cogliano’s big week of 3 overtime goals in 3 games the Hockey Hall of Fame was quick to get in contact with him to get their hands on a piece of history.

The HHOF was interested in getting Cogliano’s stick and gloves he used during those three games. Immediately he handed over the stick but told them he would like to use the gloves for the rest of the season, so they have put a blue mark on the inside of both his gloves to make sure at the end of the year they get the right set of gloves.

This isn’t the first time Andrew has donated something to the HHOF, a few years back when he won the under 17 championships he also gave them his stick then. So not even a full year into his first NHL season he has had the HHOF knocking on his door twice, not bad!

Insane Week For NHL Rookie

By -Jay on March 13th, 2008
On March 7th the Edmonton Oilers lead their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets until .8 seconds left in the 3rd period.

After the disappointment of giving up a late goal the team battled back with a goal 1:53 into overtime by Andrew Cogliano.

On March 9th the Edmonton Oilers got involved in a high scoring affair with the Chicago Blackhawks where the Oilers blew a 3-1 first period lead to yet again win it in overtime, with an overtime goal AGAIN by Andrew Cogliano.

Finally the Oilers topped off their week with a game against the St. Louis Blues. Again they ended up in overtime where with 12 seconds left Cogliano had an amazing chance at his third straight OT game winner but wasn’t able to bury it. Then St. Louis’ defenceman Barrett Jackman turned the puck over to Sam Gagner who was able to send it back infront of the net with 5 seconds left to none other then ANDREW COGLIANO who wouldn’t miss this time, scoring with 4 seconds left for his 3rd straight overtime game winning goal, an NHL record.

His stick is officially on its way to the hockey hall of fame, which will be followed by his gloves at the end of the season.

Andrew Cogliano, OVETIME HERO………………… x3

By -Jay on March 12th, 2008
For the last three games the Edmonton Oilers game has ended with Edmonton play-by-play man Kevin Quinn saying something to the affect of… “GOALLLLLL, COGLIANO THE OVERTIMEEEEE HERO!”.

Playing in the shadow of fellow Edmonton Oiler young star Sam Gagner all year Cogliano has had a chance to go through his first NHL season relatively unnoticed, until this week. What Cogliano has done this week is nothing short of unbelievable. Cogs has officially stamped his name in the NHL record books with three straight OT winners, a record that may take awhile, if ever to break. Not only is it three straight OT game winners, but three straight games that have gone into OT and hes won them all.

This Edmonton Oiler season may not go down in history as one of the bests, but it will go down in NHL history as possibly the greatest team in extra time. They are virtually unbeatable after 60 minutes, breaking pretty much every possible record in the NHL for their success in the shootout. And now they have set their sights on breaking record for overtime successes.
